Curiouser and curiouser
I am interested in science and technology and how it interacts with human psychology. In particular cosmology, complexity, and emergent behavior. I am currently doing systems and network administration in Austin, TX for my day job. I'm looking to grow my career into research and development using Open Source methodologies.
I've been running a BBS system since 1983 and it's been on the internet since 1993. It's called Solar Soyuz Zaibatsu (ie Solar Union Combine) or "We're all in this together". It's located at ssz.com. I also have a twine by that same name, stop by sometime.
My personal philosophy is a melding of Pantheism and Transhumanism.

It is intended to demonstrate that when the Constitution as a whole is applied to sensitive issues it in fact provides clear ...

Investigating Government Today -- Commentary on Healthcare ReformWhile it is certainly true that an argument for universal health care can be made, and probably should be, there is the question of just how far it should go? Many people who advocate it refer to it as a right, and this has certain merit as well. But what are the boundaries on that right? There ...

FBI Investigated Coder for Liberating Paywalled Court RecordsWhen 22-year-old programmer Aaron Swartz decided last fall to help an open-government activist amass a public and free copy of millions of federal court records, he did not expect he’d end up with an FBI agent trying to stake out his house.

Study plunges standard Theory of Cosmology into CrisisThe real problem here with the neo-Newtonian approach is that no clear replacement theory is available. It's one thing to say we live in a non-Newtonian (really non-Einsteinian) cosmos based on a list of anomalies, it's a whole other issue to provide an alternative that keeps the know effects ...James Choate added to A Darkness In the Sky 2 months ago

hackerspacesHow so? I first got involved in this sort of stuff in the early 80's, in particular I participated in a hands-on science museum based around the hands-on approach The Exploratorium used. My focus is to get a couple of hackerspaces going (Austin and Cheyenne in particular) and build them into a ...James Choate added to Science Education 4 months ago
