Though he’s mostly known for his CE stuff, his new minimalist pre, the B1 “passive buffered” preamp, makes a lot of sense for pro audio geeks as well. It would be a simple matter to provide a balanced output, either active or via transformer. The complete schematic and parts list is available as well…...

Agreed. I've been talking to Sarah Jones, queen editor at Mix, about this. It's easy to dismiss subjective experience with "scientific fact." As an engineer, I'm frequently baffled by the disconnect between testing results and subjective experience. Hey, that's what makes things interesting!
