I am English born and bred, currently living in the South West. I was born in the late 1960's and have three sons (youngest 11, oldest 16). I like good wine and food, books and films and particularly enjoy learning Chinese. When a little younger I used to enjoy martial arts (various) but stopped a little while ago (the last time I got cracked ribs) I try to keep fit but don't heal fast enough now to be picking up lumps and bruises.
I am kind of curious about where technology will take us.
My career originally started in Chemistry (both analytical and synthetic) but progressed in Quality management (I have held Quality management positions in pharmaceutical, medical device, printing and automated vision inspection companies). Programming and software development was a hobby that developed to the point where I became a software developer (much more fun in my opinion). For some years I have been developing software solutions and online systems for academic publishing.
I was once a member of Mensa briefly and apparently my IQ is 178, please ignore this unless you are one of those that thinks this type of thing is important. I know that there are many dimensions of intelligence and that I am often very stupid that is all the proof you need to make your own judgements and not be impressed by anyone who shoves IQ, paper qualifications or anything similiar at you. Of course if you have a high IQ and think you are special then you "know" I am wrong and are free to be impressed. Also I would suggest not to be impressed by emotional intelligence or personality profiles, they can be faked particularly by people with high IQ (hey maybe that is what IQ is for ;)).

Popup Chinese: Learn Chinesecontent Elementary A Date with Sichuan "How hot do you like it," he had asked, which was how they ended up in the latest Sichuan restaurant to open in downtown Paris. The setting was a coy pairing of Continental elegance and Oriental exoticism. And it would have made for a perfect date ...

New study may revolutionize language learningNot directly Mandarin related but certainly useful for all language learners. My own related discoveries here. http://friedelcraft.blogspot.com/2008/04/best-thing-i-did-in-starting-to-learn.htmlhucheng added to Learning-Mandarin 8 months ago

New study may revolutionize language learningI am pleased to see this, although it does seem rather obvious. I would like to find the actual research but have failed so far. I worked this out for myself a long time ago: http://friedelcraft.blogspot.com/2008/04/best-thing-i-did-in-starting-to-learn.htmlhucheng added to Mind hacks 8 months ago
