Processing 1.0 (BETA)It is a terrible name for a language, but its very easy to learn and if you visit the exhibition page you will find some really amazing work being done. I think the idea of trying to put tools in the hands of non-programmer types is paying off in some very creative stuff.Andrew Collins added to Visual Design 14 months ago

ArduinoWhat Processing does for visualization, Arduino does for hardware. It eases entry into building electronics and has a large, helpful, and growing community including artists, and amateurs.Andrew Collins added to Processing Language 17 months ago

reboot10 - calling all practical visionaries of the world! This topic - http://www.reboot.dk/artefact-4198-en.html - in particular made me think that reboot10 belongs in the McLuhan Twine. It's about how the Internet is changing the nature of society to a more interconnected and complex environment. This will sound familiar to the reader of McLuhan if ...Andrew Collins added to Marshal McLuhan 17 months ago

code_swarm - Python on VimeoReally groovy viz, but it has some serious problems when there's more than about 5 people. It's tough to tell who's doing what. One of the most powerful things about it turns out to be the narrative. A simple overlay of words to explain what's happening make it a much more powerful presentation. ...Andrew Collins added to Visualization 18 months ago

Design and the elastic mindThe premise of this exhibit is that technology, through design is changing the way we think. It's exactly what Marshal McLuhan meant when he said, "The medium is the message." The technology and the creative uses that designers put it to are extensions of ourselves that change us in ways that ...Andrew Collins added to science and the humanities 19 months ago

The Art of Complex Problem SolvingI'm not sure what humanware is - Google didn't spit out a software package for me. Looking at the page source shows that its some simple enough javascript swapping images in response to mouseover events. It wouldn't be too hard to do by hand. As for the content, its very nicely done and ...Andrew Collins added to Visualization 19 months ago

Max Kiesler - Permalink for Visualization Programming Languages, Software, and ToolkitsThe first item on this list is Processing.org which I've been having a lot of fun with. I hadn't seen the Graph Gear network viz before, though. That looks like it could be perfect for one of my projects. I'm curious how large a graph it can handle. The examples are very small.Andrew Collins added to Visualization 19 months ago

Twine-Freebase HybridOoooh, I second that. I'm sure there are lots of opportunities for linking to other sets of structured data. If I make an item about a musical group there are many places to go to to find related groups and further info (musicbrains, last.fm, et al.). Freebase has information on people and ...Andrew Collins added 19 months ago
