The Ocean Institute has become nationally known for its hands-on marine science, environmental education and maritime history programs. More than 110,000 K-12 students and 8,000 teachers annually participate in the Institute's 61 award-winning, immersion style programs. The Pilgrim & the Ocean Institute at Dana PointThe tall ship is a full-size replica of "the Pilgrim" immortalized by Richard Henry Dana, Jr. in his novel, "Two Years Before the Mast " which is, of course, moored at the Dana Point Harbor. The buildings beyond the Pilgrim belong to the Ocean Institute, a fun place to take the kids.
