Epigenetics studies the developmental impact of environmental influences that alter gene expression and can be inherited, but that cannot be attributed to changes in the base sequences of genes. As such, in contrast to the teachings of genetics for much of the twentieth century, epigenetics acknowledges the impact of environment on heredity. - C.A. Logan
