Rock music is one of many genres of pop music. It has its roots in the rock and roll and rockabilly music of the American 1940s and '50s. Rock music usually has a prominent vocal melody supported by electric guitar(s), bass guitar, synthesizers, and drums, at its core. Other instruments used in Rock music less-typically include, saxophone, harmonica, violin, flute, French horn, banjo, melodica, and timpani. Groups of musicians playing Rock music are known as a rock band or rock group.
