Sustainability Through People
Public
Sustainability has oscillated in and out of social consciousness throughout history, and yet, today there is still no agreement upon what the word means or how to achieve it. I propose a new definition - sustainability is the state of a system in which self-regulating feedback loops guide the creation of recurring value, while maximizing intergenerational equity, through the awareness of associated externalities. With this definition in mind a reasonable starting point for a strategic effort at a more sustainable society is people - peoples' process and depth of awareness, our information/knowledge systems (mechanisms of feedback), and our cultures perception of value.
