Future Research and Global Responsibility
Public
Dedicated to systematic and controlled research about the future of the global system, i.e. as a dynamic whole of the interwoven sub systems of society, technology, economy, ecology and politics (STEEP).
This twine is a complementary to the other future related twines (t:Futures, t:Future Technology) – with a certain focus on global issues and responsibility.
Background and details:
As an experienced futurist I have been encountering a certain polarity in the field again and again. The polarity seems to correlate with the basic attitude concerning the role of technology for the fulfillment of human life – indivudally and globally.
Nobody denies the meaning of technological progress in past and future. But it is my personal conviction that mankind (and you as an individual) too has to progress: Growing in the dimension of morality to come to terms with the questions ahead. With increasing technological means and vast impact of emerging technologies of the near future, the challenge of responsibility extends ever deeper in space and time. Everyone is invited.
My Twine approach:
I think Twine is superior to a knowledge base like the (hardly unsubstituable) Wikipedia in the feature to allow views which are different, complementary and in dialogue like the reality itself. So the founder is a futurist with a slightly skeptical twist concerning the power of technological solutions which neglect the human factor.

Women's World Bank Head Mary Iskenderian: 'Men Are Programmed to Take More Risk'As the traditional wisdom has put it: Men and women and their differences nicely fit together. I think, there is a (post)modernist delusion around misunderstanding, what the principle of equality is about. It is about rights and not about "essence". "Good to be different."Willi Schroll added 6 months ago

How do we know the LHC really is safe? - physics-math - 27 January 2009 - New ScientistThe history of science is a history of progress, but also of hybris and moral failure. I am sorry, but hat is a scientific fact. So what should be the gain to justify the risk of annihilation? Remind: Existence (being there) is the transcendental necessary condition of _any_ good.Willi Schroll added 10 months ago

Google Sinks $10 Million Into New Geothermal Technologiesquote: If we could tap just two percent of that heat under the continental United States, one MIT study estimates that would supply more than 2500 times our energy needs. 29WorldChanging: How Do We Intelligently Discuss Politicized Geoengineering?"...we need to acknowledge both the full extent of human influence on the Earth and the need for intelligent planetary management..." This is a useful starting point. I'd like to see all the statistics fed into the system so we know the extent of the mess we're trying to clean up.Murray Peat added 18 months ago
