Introducing MOAT : Alexandre Passant
Description
While tags are widely used in Web 2.0 services, their lack of machine-understandable meaning can be a problem for information retrieval, especially when people use tags that can have different meanings depending on the context.

MOAT aims to solve this by providing a way for users to define meaning(s) of their tag(s) using URIs of Semantic Web resources (such as URIs from dbpedia, geonames … or any knowledge base), and then annotate content with those URIs rather than free-text tags, leveraging content into Semantic Web, by linking data together. Moreover, tag meanings can be shared between people, providing an architecture of participation to define and exchange potential meanings of tags within a community of users.

To achieve this goal, MOAT relies on an architecture that can be deployed for any organisation or community and that involves a lightweight ontology, a MOAT server, and some third-party clients .

More details about the framework and its implementation are described on the project website. A demo server is available here, and updates should be done soon (code and documentation).

MOAT has a simple client implementation in Drupal. It needs to be updated to sit on top of the new RDF API and updated for Drupal 6. Drupal could also potentially become a MOAT server. Many non-semweb people in the blogosphere have been talking about such a connected tag system for some time, so it would be an easy sell.

You could try to get in touch with Alexandre Passant at DERI if the following isn't enough. He gave a talk at SDOW2008 in Karlsruhe last week (see http://sdow2008.semanticweb.org/#topics) about LODr, that uses MOAT: http://sunsite.informatik.rwth-aachen.de/Publications/CEUR-WS/Vol-405/paper2.pdf
Nice ideas there. There is a download link on the LODr website: http://lodr.info/

hi Francois, Thank you so much for replying me back with some suggestions. Actually I posted this comment on "drupal" sites and other sites also, but not getting any help. I am in California, and doing my masters. I need this for my project. So I am just wondering if anybody already has used this module can help me on how exactly to set up the server. i looked at "http://lodr.info/". I wasn't able to understand completely. I mean i am using drupal to create my site, so how can i integrate this with lodr? and where exactly i need to put lodr on my machine?

Hi Sneha. I haven't checked Drupal for a while. And I haven't tried the MOAT or LODR install yet... and am afraid I won't find the time to test it in the near future. If I were you, I would post this question as a note to the "Ontologies" twine and there is a good chance you'll find people there who could help you. But Alexandre is probably the best resource on this. His email address is on the PDF quoted above.
