Honestly, I don't know if this will turn out to be a worthwhile venture for Microsoft. Online search has changed so much now that I believe information sharing and filtering through user-collaboration is really the way to go for future search.

I am more than willing to give it a try, but I think that their real battle will be in marketing against Google. Google will be able to mimic anything new in Bing that gets a good response, so this will be interesting to watch. I don't think Twitter comes near having the functionality that these next generation search engines are offering, but if they can catch up they may be the long term winner, as you point out.

I agree. The ability to capitalize on the search capabilities and traffic is going to eventually count from a business perspective. Twitter is definitely nowhere near the search capabilities offered by these search engines yet. I was actually thinking that communities such as Twine essentially count users to filter useful information and may be more useful to us than a generic search engine. But then again, it'll probably have to depend on what area we are searching about.
