90 Degrees: Vertical Parking System Parks Three Cars In The Space Of One - The Design blog
Description
With the increasing number of vehicles in cities, parking is becoming a major problem in urban environments, knocking a blow to the auto industry. Addressing the issue, Brazilian designer Baita Bueno has designed a vertical parking system that parks your car at a 90-degree angle and just takes the place of one car to park three vehicles. Entitled “90 degrees,” the parking system apart from providing a safe parking space also harness green energy via solar panels to fuel your vehicle, making cities a better place to drive as well as live in. Featuring tire support and side clamps for a tight grip, the vertical parking system also integrates a generator and fuel plug, so your vehicle remains fueled all the time.

Interesting concept, but also a fine example of how designers can ignore even the most basic realities in pursuit of a concept.

As any parent will quickly tell you, this concept is pure insanity---can you imagine the collection of broken toys, cheerios, sand, and other detritus that would pile up on the face of the dashboard every time you tilt the family minivan upright?

And not to mention the repair costs for replacing a windshield whenever that gallon jug of milk cascades down from the back seat to shatter the window.
