What's a boring wine list?

Steve Heimhoff used my review of the wine list at Lake Chalet last week to raise the discussion in his blog of what constitutes an exciting or boring wine list.

His piece was interesting to me because he feels the same way I do about wine lists that are packed with reliable brands, but offer little that's new or exciting. The comments section of his post was equally as interesting, regarding what people look for in a wine list.
