Hosted Laconica instances - status.net coming soon - Control Yourself

A list of features to be expected from the upcoming hosted Laconica service.

"I’ve been telling people for a few months that one of our plans for commercializing the Identica software and getting more people on the OpenMicroBlogging network is to have a hosted service for new microblogging communities. I wanted to get out some information about the upcoming service — I’m really excited about the prospective launch. Note that all of the following is preliminary information and may change before launch.

* The service will be rooted at the status.net domain. Customers will be able to go to status.net and sign up for a new community account in a manner of minutes.
* Their new microblogging server will be hosted at nickname.status.net, where nickname is their site’s chosen nickname (like “sports“, “mycompany”, “newyork”, or whatever). We chose the “status.net” domain just so it would look good with this kind of URL!
* They’ll also be able to map an existing domain that they control to the new service, so instead of “example.status.net” their site uses “micro.example.com” or what have you.
* We’ll have two sizes of accounts - Small and Large. Not quite sure of the breakdown, but Small will probably be <100 users, and Large <10000. We’ll make special deals for >10000 users.
* Prices will depend on the size and whether the site is private or public. (...)"
