10 Tips from Twine Connoisseurs
Get Feed-
Whether you're a newbie or wondering 'what more can I be doing on Twine?' - check out these nifty tips from "Twine Connoisseurs." (aka Power Users, aka, Twinerians that use it a lot!)
1) Join Twines
Use search to find a twine of interest or use explore and join one of the top 100.
2) Fill in your profile with meaningful information
"…explain your personality, your interests, your profession, whatever. But put something there that will give other members a clue as to the kind of person you are and the kinds of things you are interested in."
3) Make connections (but not just for the sake of it)
"Seek out the people who share your same interests, post things that you enjoy, write comments that you like to read/agree with - make meaningful connections--ones that will enrich your twine experience."
4) Contribute
"Don't just posts into twines, but comment on items of unique interest. Start a conversation. Post an opinion, and be prepared to defend it. You will get so much more out of Twine when you become part of the program instead of just watching it."
5) Ask for help if you need it
Contact support, or reach out to other Twine members in the Twine Users Forum.
6) Be yourself.
"…Don't join the technological twines if that's not what interests you. if you don't know what web 2.0 is, but you do want to join the "celebrity gossip" twine, that's okay. If you are true to yourself, you will find connections with other like-minded people."
7) Visit your connections
"…See what they are into, what they are posting, and what they are commenting on. Chances are, there are some things they are already connected into that might be of interest to you. Use their interests to expand your own."
8) Use RSS
"Set up RSS feeds on everything. Check it regularly. It's amazing sometimes how something you might not have a perceived interest in will suddenly have relevance to something else you ARE interested in." More on RSS
9) Take it one piece at a time.
"…My suggestion is to start with some searches, to see what is there already. Fill in your profile information. Pick a few twines to join. Contribute to those twines. Learn about the tagging. When 'missing things' are noticed, create, populate, and announce a new twine. As you encounter people, pick those you would like to connect to. Private twines can be created anywhere in that list."
10) And lastly… have fun!
"Keep a sense of humor and perspective"Thanks to lynn-ecg, . fishead ., Lesley Rockafellow Webster, Phil Duby, shal for their contributions to these tips
