Definitely the future is with semantic parsing. The question is whether FrameNet's rather deep approach is superior to more shallow semantics efforts, like PropBank?

Certainly the more specific frame information in FrameNet has the potential to be useful for inference, as long as the people defining the frames get things right. (Full disclosure: I used to work on the FrameNet project.) But the projects are so similar, and the kind of information that they're gathering about argument structure is so important, that I don't really want to encourage an internal debate about who's doing it better. I like the "Let's combine data from all the different projects" attitude exemplified by SemLink.
