What I hate about the newest super-high-mpg is that they cost as much as a luxury car. You're basically paying for all the gas you'd save up front (and maybe thensome!)! Plus, they don't mention how many kwh of electricity you'll need to boost up the mpg, so you don't know the real cost of paying for the electricity PLUS the fuel, which diminishes the cost savings. Lastly, how stable are they in snow and ice in the winter?
So far, they're great for reducing cabron emissions if you have lots of money to spend, but so far they don't help the everyday person trying to save their money...

Many good points, sprindle. It's also valid to question the overall success of a program like this since all the efforts to generate hybrid technologies have the hidden costs of things like lead batteries, or coal burning to generate the electricity to charge the system. I recall reading an article in Wired about real hybrid costs, and how you're actually better off carbon-footprint-wise purchasing a used Yugo or Accord, than any of these new hybrid vehicles, because they all come with such a high up-front environmental impact, just to get off the production floor.
