Is Google Making Us Stupid?

An article that discusses the effect of electronic media on thought. The author discusses McLuhan as well as Nietzsche and makes some interesting points. I think he looses the plot when he focuses on Google and compares Google to the industrial revoloution. I think if he had really read his McLuhan he might have recognised what he was seeing as the switchover from visual thinking as created by print to acoustic thinking as created by all electronic media. The visual is linear- one thing follows another like the lines on a page. The acoustic is all at once from all arround. This is what he's noticing in the way he reads little snippets from lots of sources rather than a whole book deeply.
