Why should I use "twine"? Why should I use "twine"? / Items

More reasons

I was hoping that a few "insiders" would jump in and provide a list of good reasons for switching to Twine. So far, there is very little echo. What can I do to get attention from the insiders? Or is it that there are no good reasons.... ;-)

Andreas, I've shared your item with the "Feedback..." twine. You're use case is an interesting one since you created a twine as a top level discussion item rather than as a specific topic of interest. The application supports this use case, but it demonstrates that we need to improve the learnability of how to use twines (or groups, collections) vs. how to use items. Thanks for posing this question - I hope you get more responses from the members of the feedback twine.

I'm a recent adopter, having asked to be invited because I'd been looking for something like what I think Twine is. I have specific needs to link people from very different disciplines - science, business, education, culture - in specific projects where there's limited common knowledge and hardly any common working practice.

Twine seems to have the advantage of being what you make it - its framework is more open, visually appealing and inclusive (in style as well as literally the format of what you can add as items) than more targetted things like delicious or flickr or basecamp which I've anyway found useful to add to my project twine, almost like applications to the core 'mind' that Twine provides.

I like that Twine is about meaning rather than chatting, I'd generally rather be working than networking. Lots of interesting chat goes on - that wasn't my reason for joining and I have yet to see whether the more open dialogue with new connections will be really valuable to me or distracting.

Too early to say whether it will meet my specific needs, which I suspect others may share: but encouraged by my use so far and Twine people's readiness to act quickly on feedback in this beta stage.

plusequals, you might want to check out my Global Collaboration Environments twine. I started for the sole pupose of exploring ways to do just what you describe.

I think I'm getting it! I had read about Twine's semantic analysis, but when I first started, I didn't see much I could not already get from del.icio.us and other "tagging" sites. The "secret sauce" I found is that twine assigns additional tags, beyond the ones you initially use. Once Twine hits critical mass, it should make deep research a lot easier. For example, I added an article about security of wireless keys, such as those used for cars. Twine picked up the names of the researchers, and the auto companies mentioned. Depending where I want to dig, I can focus on the researcher, the auto manufacturers, or other topics from the article.
      "But wait, there's more..."
There is also a recommendation engine which selects articles and twines which may be of interest. This has been around for quite a while, e.g. Amazon recommends products based on what you've looked at and/or bought. I'm not sure what inputs and what algorithms Twine uses, but potentially the recommendations should be better targeted with both more articles in the system, and more history on my use of it.

There are many good reasons, but still one limitation to switch : the import features (planned but not implemented), as someone said in this twine. This is a priority (collect bookmarks)...
Some of the good reasons :
      * easy as a wiki, and more powerful if you consider self-tagging and categorizing, and more..
      * subject-centric (rather than person) : user (defines)=> interests (defines)=> recommended twines & items, or rather user

I think Twine is going to be Big thing.

I believe Semantic Web as the next change in Internet.

It automates the tags for the documents, in turn making it easy to search information and share among people.

Its simple so i use it
