For orgs that operate this way, do you think that they're consciously aware that they're doing it?

      Thanks for listening.

Based on your chart--there is no awareness, conscious or non, because all the arrows are one-way, and the only gauge that management has as to effectiveness is the output of $$$ at the end. The dictate from management might as well be to "do it with Cheese" as far as the input and it's overall influence on the final product. All effort, creation and interpretation of data feeds ocurrs within the Value-Creation bubble, that simply reacts to the variety of feeds, and must evaluate and weigh their merits against the others to develop a solution. I would challenge that you could remove one or more of the inputs, and the net result would still be the same, so to answer your question, no--there is no awareness. ever. This is a gastro-nomic linear process no consciousness involved, just autonomic reaction to stimulus.

Thanks for your interpretation Rick. As always, it's a treat to hear your feedback.

I like the time bomb of support groups and the trap of building to their influence alone. Often times people don't really know what they want until someone else shows them the benefits and possibilities. Look at the internet. Look at the ubiquitous Ipod. Heck, my kids got new ones for Christmas with more computing power and capabilities than the first 3 computers I owned--they don't even use their desktop anymore because this small hand-held device is supplying all their needs and interaction requirements to the network, in a much more portable and engaging manner than a big stationary device ever could.

Don't change the product to react to needs and wants. Create the product that generates new and unknown needs and wants and turn that into an entirely new thing altogether. Doing it Nx faster will never generate a product like that.

isn't this the way most orgs operate? isn't this the educational model too? so, by the time you've been through an MBA program, you're ready to jump into it with both feet; but, by the time you've been in it for a while, you're losing a lot of the reason why you got the MBA? so, yeah, it's not conscious, cause it's just "the way it's done."
