Edolphus Towns (D-N.Y.), the incoming chairman of the House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform, said he will hold hearings and possibly subpoena NCAA officials, college presidents, players, coaches and athletics directors in an effort to force a playoff in Division 1-A football, USA Today reports.

      Some may lament the government "sticking its nose" into sports. Wise up. Governments (local, state, and national) have "stuck their noses" into sports for a LONG time to BENEFIT sports (allowing monopolies, subsidizing sports via direct aid to colleges and sometimes even athletes, tax breaks for "booster" contributions, "non-profit" "amateur" sports income, and professional sports franchises relocation and palaces, etc.). About time someone took the side of the fans ...
