New-registrations check for fraud could crash entire voter database, Ohio Secretary of State Jennifer Brunner says - Cleveland.com

Description: Ohio's voter database was poorly constructed and cannot handle a massive check for fraud among the state's 700,000 newly registered voters, Secretary of State Jennifer Brunner said Thursday.

The Democratic secretary said her office tried to cross-check the new or revised registrations filed since Jan. 1, although she was not required to do so after beating back an Ohio Republican Party lawsuit that went all the way to the U.S. Supreme Court.

But Brunner concluded that the checks could crash the entire state database, which contains about 8.3 million registered voters. That would be too risky a proposition with a major election a few days away.
