Regional events happen across the world, and also in adjacent towns and cities. Many of them, smaller and more frequent than regional burns, like monthly meetups, art openings, and informal get-togethers, fall below the radar. Some of them might be only partly related to Burning Man or your nearby Regional, and otherwise don't appear on official websites. You might go only if you knew others who also planned to go. Eventful can help.

This group, unfractured, can serve as a clearinghouse for such community events regardless of metro. Then finding the right or nearby events easily is a matter of finding or inviting the right “friends”.
