From my "Rising Stars" panel earlier today:

Nova: Semweb data storage.  (Ian disagreed.)

Alex (Adaptive Blue BlueOrganizer): Semweb for making iPhone apps.

Tom (Stealth-Company.com): Interface-related issues.  (He's also a big iPhone fan.)  Social graphing combined with location awareness.

Ian (Talis): Travel, related consumer apps.

Barney (Powerset): Semweb search, semweb-based/focused advertising, semweb-based/focused publishing.

And, no, I didn't ponder out loud whether Barney would look good in a green Microsoft shirt ... although I did hint to something like this in the press conference (a passing remark; something about giving the press a scoop).

One more thing.  Well, it's NSFW.  Something Nova said.  You'll have to ask around.

Good crowd, but way too short.  (This keynote session was only one hour and each presenter gave a 5 minute demo/presentation; Barney is the one who pushed for giving demos.)  For Nova's demo, I ran the "Radar Love" video.  (I let the audience vote on whether they wanted to see an introductory tutorial or a fun video.  They overwhelmingly picked the fun video.)  Collected dozens of business/name cards from those requesting to join the beta.

One more day to go at SemTech.  Then back to my real world of limitless sunshine.

So it doesn't take much to imagine what Nova's NSFW suggestion is ;) Liberal use of the foaf:depicts property and a sprinkling of SPARQL should equal a service that catered to a fairly large audience. Interesting though, might SW be a noteworthy breakthrough technology that isn't dependent on this market to reach the mainstream?

Tom (presumably Gruber)++ for raising the interface issue. There were a bunch of cool new Semantic Web browsers presented at the Linked Data on the Web workshop at WWW2008 (http://events.linkeddata.org/ldow2008/). These are only going to get better, but we also need to have a careful think about what a Web of Data changes about Web interaction.

Tom Gruber is absolutely right, that interface-related issues are a major issue/opportunity in the Semantic Web space, now and in the future. Seeing that comment inspired me to start this twine.
