Just a reminder that there is a blog note on this twine for you folks to use. Since SSZ is not really a topical twine (other than a place for me to dump 'stuff' of interest) it's open to discussion on just about anything. Feel free to share something if you think it's interesting or at least peripherally related to the tags :)

James: In honor of the new forum, would ask if we are making progress on the semantic web layers here in beta test or can expect to in public operation. If so, where would the site appear in the diagram and/or where do the layers appear onsite? If not, what is a better representation for the SW? Any recommendations for further advancement? Thanks.

        Hi John,

Actually the blog was the first thing I created here, but it quickly got buried :) Since they did the recent update expanding where HTML can be placed it's become a lot more flexible with regard to user organization.

As I'm not an employee or privy to any inside info in regard to Twine so I don't know what they've got in mind for the next major update in a few weeks in preparation for the July opening. With regard to the RSS::Email tool I'm working on. I'll be looking at both The Yoke and Snownews tomorrow, I'm still learning the structure of the programs. Right now I'm looking at ripping the UI out of them and dumping their results direct to the command line. I'm hoping to have that aspect resolved in the next week or so.
That will allow me to pull data out of specific twines and put it back into other twines in a processed format. Then I'm moving on to the Bayesian filter, initially I'm going to break it into three categories; input/unknown, science/technology, and non-science/technology. I should start the actual install/config around the middle of July for the Bayesian filter. I've also started putting together a reference list with regard to text analysis as it looks to be the next extension the Bayesian filters.

Sorry I don't have a more specific answer to your question.

Because of the recent changes it is now possible to link twines to each other via their URLs and links on the 'Summary' page. So, you can get to this blog item, to any of our sub-twines, and to the SSZ Summary page from any of our sub-blogs with a mouse click. Makes it a lot easier to get from here to there...

That's a kool tip! I didn't even think of entering URLs directly into the "description" field of the summary page. Thanks.

As far as I can tell it wasn't possible until the last big update when they enabled HTML in a lot of places it wasn't before. I was pleasantly surprised that it worked.

      Hello Everyone!

First, let me thank each and every one of you for participating in Twine and more personally in SSZ.

I've been updating the SSZ 'Summary' tab to include links to all the other twine that we sponsor. So if you want to understand what we're doing and where, you will want to check in there.

If you have any other questions, comments, or just got something to say; then please feel free to use this blog item.

      Peace to you all!

It occurs to me that as time goes on there may be a business model in teams of 'collectors' who feed semantic sorting engines for redistribution. Over the last couple of weeks I've noticed an increase in items added to SSZ by a growing number of participants (Thanks!). You could use automated crawlers for sites that are well managed and people for random and ill-behaved (not as in rude) sources of information.

You may have noticed that ssz.com has been down for the last few days. I'm rebuilding the servers so that they can better support other projects. I've also been working on the science museum project (Confusion Research Center) and hope to have the first couple of exhibits built in the next few weeks. I'm trying to finish a 1::12 scale copy of Leonardo Da Vinci's parachute.

I bought an i-Sobot humanoid robot on eBay a couple of weeks ago for $65 +s/h. That's quite a bit less than it's MSR of $200. But the cost has definitely gone down now that they have been discontinued. After playing with it I must say that I'm a little surprised that there is not more hacking on these bots. Google doesn't show very much activity at all.

Do you have one? Are you hacking it?

Just got back a few minutes ago from the Dorkbot Austin event at SXSW, participated with The Robot Group. It was quite interesting and there was a lot of energy. I believe TRG has something going on Monday night at Plutopia but I don't think I'll be off work in time to really get involved.
